It’s been a long time since I felt empowered. I think. I felt empowered as an engineer. I was given authority to make decisions and sign my name to them. That was empowerment with a lot of pressure and stress. And perhaps some ego built in. I burned out every four years. And then I burned out every few years. And then I began burning out more often, getting sick frequently. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my job as an engineer but the stress was taking a toll on my mind, body and spirit. I was not getting any younger and I needed to take care of myself. Life came in a few times to kick my ass and I was too busy doing, showing up for corporate, not paying attention to the signs. Not paying attention to me.

Welcome Monica 2.0! This is your life and you need to take care of yourself. Step in ’empowerment’. I guess it hasn’t been that long at all since I have been empowered. Thank you! Me empowering myself (yes!) to take action to be my best, healthiest and most vibrant self.

How do I do this? How do I make time for self-care? One practice at a time. If I don’t take care of my well-being, nobody else will. If I am not healthy, I cannot be my best self, I cannot show up for my family or my friends or my clients. Well that would be a bummer for all those that choose to be in my circle.

And that’s why I am here and I am showing up as an empowered woman, to help you empower yourself. The first step…becoming aware. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in. Pause. Slowly release the breath. Pause. Do this a few times.

Nourishing and Fulfilling

I was feeling the blah’s one night not long ago, and I decided to eat something warm, nourishing and fulfilling.

While we have been eating healthy, my body wanted to detox and it was asking for something healing and grounding.

Kitchari is an ayurvedic dish that is simple to make. It is made of basmati rice, mung beans and spices. See a recipe link here. My variation is made in a rice cooker using 1 cup of basmati rice, 1/2 cup of mung beans, 2 tbs of ghee and a premade spice mix I have from Banyan Botanicals. And then I add some vegetables on the side.
